If caring is your calling, the Baptist School of Health Professions offers an Advance Placement for students transitioning LVN-to-RN into the Associate of Applied Science in Nursing program that provides the additional education and training needed for a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) to prepare to become a Registered Nurse (RN).

Applicants to the Advance Placement program are required to have:

  • A valid Texas LVN License.
  • 3 months of LVN work experience if graduation has been within 1 year or 6 months of LVN work experience if graduation has been greater than one year but less than 2 years.
  • A refresher course may be required of any applicant unable to document recent LVN experience.

In today's challenging healthcare environment, a shortage of RNs has created the incentive for LVNs to advance their career to the next level. The LVN-to-RN Advance Placement option allows licensed LVN students to enter the AAS in Nursing in second semester.

Today's job prospects for RNs in the San Antonio region are good. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the demand for Registered Nurses is expected to grow by 623,156 jobs or 27.3% from 2002 to 2012 (2006-2007, Occupational Outlook Handbook, US Department of Labor). Actual salaries may vary depending upon employer size, employee experience, and employee credentials. The average salary for an RN in San Antonio TX is $54,080 (CBSalary.com).
